Bathroom Remodeling: How to Hang a New Door
Many times, when we pursue bathroom remodeling projects, we come to a point in which we realize that we really need to hang a new door. I mean, let’s face it, some doors simply do not “fit” our completed bathroom project. It may be that the color of the door is no longer appropriate, the door may have aged to the point where it tarnishes the appearance of the newly designed bathroom, or we just may not like the type of door in conjunction with our new design. There are many reasons why we may want to change out a door. It all depends on what we want, what is best suited for the home, and what best matches the overall look and feel of the room. Regardless of the reason, it is important to know the steps that are involved in hanging a door. Here, I will share my experience with you on how to do this.
Things You Will Need
There are a couple of essential tools and supplies that you will need in order to hang a new door when remodeling your bathroom. The following list provides the details on these specifics:
• First, you will need to obtain the door that you want to hang
• You should then purchase a level
• Next, you will need a hammer and some nails – the nails should be about 16d
• It is a good idea to purchase some 10d nails as well
• Wood putty is also a requirement
• It is also a good idea to have some wood sealer
The Steps
Once you have gathered the necessary tools and supplies in order to hang the new bathroom door, it is important to know and understand that you will need to follow a couple of basic steps. The following represents the steps required:
1. The first thing that you will want to do is take the door that you have purchased for the project and put it in the opening where it will go. This will allow you to ensure that the door will fit, and it also allows you to level up the door. If you find that the jams are too large, or that there are any gaps around any part of the door, you will want to obtain something like shingle shims in order to fill these areas. This can be really important when it comes to properly fitting the door. If you do not properly fit the door in the space in which you plan to hang it, it will surely result in future complications and a higher level of maintenance.
2. Next, you will want to take your side jams into the door. This should be done using a hammer and the nails that are 16d. Once you have completed this step, you should see if there are any areas that need to be filled with wood putty. If so, complete this step prior to continuing in your home improvement project.
3. Next, you are ready to seal the entire frame of the door using the wood sealer that you have prepared. Once this is done, give about three to four hours so that everything can set appropriately.
4. Now, you are ready to hang the door! Put your hinges in the appropriate place, and have someone sturdy the door while you sturdy it on the base of the hinges.
Once you have completed all of the steps listed here, you have successfully hung a new bathroom door! Remember, though, it is very important that you take the time to follow through with each step. You should also have someone assist you with this home improvement project. It is often very challenging to get the door straight and the project completed successfully if you do it on your own.
