Everyone has heard the “drip, drip, drip” of a faulty faucet. This can prove to be quite an annoying issue for many homeowners. N y can it wreck havoc on the nerves, but it can prove to be extremely costly. Many may wait until they have the money to hire a professional to fix a faulty faucet, but it can easily be done by anyone just as long as the right tools are available. If you are planning a bathroom remodeling project, you may as well put “replace faucets” on the list. All that you will need are new faucets, a few tools, a little bit of time, and this handy “how to” guide to help you through.
The first thing that you must understand when it comes to faucets is that these instruments are devices that are used in order to retrieve water from a nearby pipe. There are many different types of faucets that can be implemented within the home. Every sink or bathtub faucet has a certain type of valve that is used in order to control the overall flow of water that is pushed through the faucet. These valves are controlled by many different levers, handles, and springs - Each with its own unique design.
Different types of water lines are generally attached to faucets. When remodeling the bathroom, it is important to ensure that you understand what the water lines are, where they attach to, and their purpose. Water lines are usually indicated by a dark white or gray color. They deliver cold and hot water to the faucets in the bathroom. Prior to removing these water lines for any reason, whatsoever, it is absolutely vital that you ensure that you know exactly how they are plugged in to the faucet. This will ensure that you reinstall the water lines appropriately once you replace the faucets while remodeling the bathroom.
It is essential to ensure that you know and recognize the overall type of valve that is used in the faucet. If you do not know this very important information, you will not be able to appropriately replace the faucet. When you plan on replacing the faucet, it is important that you get the proper replacement piece. If you fail to do this, then you may find that you end up with a faucet that looks like the one that you currently have, but it is off by a hair. This can be a really big deal during bathroom remodeling.
The following steps outline those measures that must be taken in order to properly replace the faucets in your bathroom:
1. The first thing that you should do when replacing the bathroom faucets – or any type of faucet in general – is to make certain that the water supply to those faucets are turned off. If you fail to turn off the water, you will likely experience a lot of frustration as you clean up the mess that is left behind.
2. The next action that should be taken as it relates to replacing the faucets in bathroom remodeling projects is to loosen up the area at the base in which the faucet is attached. Be careful when doing this, and ensure that you are rotating in the appropriate direction.
3. Once you have loosened the base of the faucet, it is important to ensure that you go underneath the sink and disconnect the water lines, or tubing, that attaches to the faucet. It is important that you inspect the tubing for any possible damage to ensure that there are no cracks that can result in future leaks. If you do find damage, it is important to ensure that you immediately replace this while bathroom remodeling.
4. While under the sink, you will find a set of bolts that hold the sink down to the counter and/or bathroom vanity. It is important to carefully loosen these so that you may life the old faucet up from the area where it is stationed.
5. The next step in the bathroom remodeling project of replacing the faucet is actually two different steps. The first is to thoroughly clean the area where the old faucet was, and the second is to mount the gasket that the new faucet will sit on.
6. You should then balance the faucet appropriately and reattach the hoses and other components. Once all the components have been set and are in place, you can then bolt the faucet down.
7. Now, you are ready to turn on the water supply line and test out the sink. Just be certain to keep the pressure low in case air may have settled into the lines.
